VII BEF Participants will Discuss Russia-ASEAN Countries Cooperartion
This year a roundtable "RUSSIA - ASEAN" will be held for the first time within the framework of the VII Baikal International Economic Forum. In connection with the 2012 APEC summit in Russia, ASEAN countries have shown great interest in the BEF.
Pham Xuan Sean, Vietnam Ambassador; Zaynol Abidin Bin Omar,Malaysian Ambassador; and Haji Emran Bahar,Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam will participate in the Forum.
Georgiy Petrov, Vice-President of the RF Chamber of Commerce, will moderate the round table.
Sergei Chernyshev, Director of Asian and African Economic Development of the Ministry of Economic Development; and Zaynol Abidin Bin Omar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Moscow Committee of ASEAN, will make presentations at the round table.
According to Sergey Chernyshev, Russia pays special attention to the socio-economic development of Siberia and the Far East and their connection to the regional integration processes. The region could become a diversified platform for attracting investment from ASEAN countries that can have a positive impact on its socio-economic development.
"The issue of interaction between Siberia and the Far East and ASEAN has been included into the draft "road map" of trade and economic cooperation between Russia and ASEAN countries," Sergey Chernyshev informed, "With respect to specific projects, the question is, for example, the switching of the volume of containerized cargo carried by the ASEAN countries along the transport routes passing through the ports of the Far East and Trans-Siberian railway in Europe and Central Asia."
