New Model of Special Economic Zone Will Be Presented at the Forum by “SEZ” OAO

“SEZ” OAO will present a new model of SEZ at the round table VII of the Baikal Economic Forum "Special Economic Zone of Tourism-Recreational Type: Investment Opportunities and Barriers".

According to Vadim Dubovik, Deputy Director General for Development and Investor Relations of "SEZ" OAO , the working model of the development of tourist zones requires serious analysis and refinement. “We have developed a new strategy for development of the tourism SEZ, aimed at overcoming some of the existing constraints to growth. It is important for us to present our views and hear the views of tourism professionals, from hoteliers and tour operators to representatives of consulting companies and banks. Following discussion, it will be clear if our proposals are interesting to the market, which provisions of the new strategy requires further correction," - said Vladimir Dubovik.

Creating the tourism and recreation zones in the Irkutsk region is especially important because the region has all the capabilities to become one of the leading tourist centers in Russia.

"The world practice shows that tourism is the engine of development of foreign economic relations and, in general, the economies of a number of countries. In this regard, the establishment of tourist-recreational zones in Russia is extremely important to us,” said Igor Kovalenko, the chairman of the Siberian Baikal Tourism Association, “Development of tourism industry can develop related industries, engineering and transport infrastructure that enhances quality of life and creates new jobs."

As Yuri Nemirovsky, the director of the "Baikal-Complex" company, considers, a project of the SEZ will be more successful if the government would provide support in solving systemic problems of domestic tourism.

In addition, according to the expert, any projects for the construction of accommodation facilities, establishment of tourist infrastructure in the area should include an environmental component.
