The Federation Council Discussed Preparation for VII BEF

On June 22, the meeting of the VII Baikal International Economic Forum Organizing Committee was held in the RF Council of Federation.

Alexander Torshin, the First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Federation said while opening the meeting that the annual format of the Forum confirms its special role in the realization of the plans on the development of the Eastern region of Russia. He also stressed the idea that the final resolution of the BEF should be of legislative character.

Vyacheslav Shtyrov, the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Federation, attracted attention to  the focus of the seventh BEF on solving practical problems. According to him, meetings and round tables discussions should develop tools to implement the Strategy for the Development of the Far East and Baikal region. 

Vladimir Pashkov, the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Irkutsk Region and Sergey Anikeev, the Minister of Economic Development, Labour, Science and Higher Education of the Irkutsk Region talked about principles of forming the programme of the  Baikal Forum.  The problems of the modernization of timber industry, transport infrastructure development, legislative support for the implementation of scientific, technological and innovative capacity of regions of Siberia and the Far East, and protecting the environment will be discussed at the BEF. The program will be finished traditionally by the day of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Victor Grigorov, the head of the Forum company-operator(Grand Baikal) presented a schedule of preparatory work and the structure of the Forum Headquarters. According to members of the Organizing Committee, all the organizational activities of the BEF platforms preparation, accommodation, meals and transportation will be done in full on time.
