The Asiatic and Pacific region countries set to participate in international symposium on energy

The International Symposium on Energy, scheduled to be held in Irkutsk as part of the VI Baikal Economic Forum, will host scientists from Indonesia, Japan, China, North and South Koreas, Mongolia, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Italy, Germany. As the VI BEF Press Center has been informed by Alexey Mihkeev, the Scientific Secretary of L.A. Melentyev’s Energy Systems Institute affiliated with SO RAS, by now 117 plenary and section presentations have been submitted for the Symposium.

«To follow up the Symposium activities, a document will be adopted with assessment of the progress made by the Russian energy industry, taking into account the potential of Russia’s eastern regions and possible cooperation in energy generation and research with the Asiatic and Pacific region countries. In addition to this, collected research papers in hard and electronic copies will be published», - Alexey Mihkeev was quoted as saying.

At the Plenary Session, the Russian Ministry for Energy is going to present Russia’s energy development strategy covering the period until 2030. Besides, the Symposium program has six sections, where the main tendencies, patterns, innovation trends in energy generation and development, principles and methods of energy system management as well as the problems of energy safety and issues of energy cooperation in Asia and regional aspects of energy industry development in the Russian East and many other aspects have been planned to be discussed.

As it was informed earlier, the International Symposium on Energy has been scheduled for the period of August, 30, till September, 3, 2010. It will integrate the two traditional scientific conferences «Energy Sector of Russia in the XXI Century: Strategy of Development – Eastern Vector » and «Energy Cooperation in Asia: the Crisis and Beyond?». The goal of the Symposium is an in-depth discussion of the issues connected with the Eastern vector of Russia’s policies in energy, which is becoming more important both in this country and internationally.
